The spirit nodded, A home, to rebuild and to relearn, for once a home is built, all that we are will eventually return. Said the spirit in earnest, After a storm, despite all the destruction in its wake, we must find it deep within ourselves to find a way through such heartache.īut where to start, I replied, when one feels so desperate and alone?Īnd the little spirit continued, When mending a soul and the things that entails, we must first build a home, so safekeeping prevails.

They exist deep in the forest, guiding seeds, from where once souls grew.Īnd so, I sat down in the sand, cross-legged and intrigued, and asked the little spirit, Tell me, how do I find what the world needs? Oh, I replied, do I know this friend? and the spirit said, You may. I knew you’d find me a friend told me about you.

With golden eyes, and wonder from the deep blue, the spirit stared up at me and said, Until one day, while walking along a beach, waves crashing at my feet and sunlight within reach, I stumbled across a spirit made of seashells and coral, of ocean stories and treasures found in sand dunes, and of gleaming stardust washed onto the shore by the moon. Many people searched and searched but could not seem to find its lost soul. So, the world ached, the beat of its heart a little less whole. They lost friends and family they lost security and freedom and faith as well. For days and months, the shadow persisted, and a deep sadness spread across the world, shattering its worth. Instagram: day, a dark storm fell upon the earth. So, here’s to you-may you always find your way home. Despite the loss the world has suffered, we, the people, are capable of rebuilding. While I always try to write my books so that you can pick them up time and time again when you need them most, I felt different writing this book it helped to remind me that, as humans and as people, we are capable of so much more than we think we are. There were many stories that inspired me, and I wanted to share with you some of those feelings I felt while reading them. But we also felt courage, grace, and a will to survive. We felt all sorts of emotions: fear, frustration, anger, sadness, and loneliness.

For months and into the years that followed, we were changed. One final note I wanted to make-parts of this book have been inspired by the pandemic, which has changed the world. And, of course, my readers, you bring me back home, always! My family, as always, my most precious support network, thank you. Thank you for your support and for all your effort I could not do this without you. I have been blessed in my career to have an amazing support network around me-James, Katherine, Byron, Karna, Justin, and all those at Andrews McMeel Universal, notably Patty, Liz, and Diane. As an author, the creation and production of a book is not a journey you take solo it’s a team effort.
